The first social event for the 2016 Golden Key RMIT committee was a barbecue at Wicks Reserve in The Basin on the 29th of November 2015. It was the first opportunity for both new and continuing members to get together in a non-formal setting before everyone inevitably disappears over the Christmas break.
Clear blue skies made for excellent Sunday BBQ conditions, making the long journey to the outskirts of Melbourne well worth it. After discovering that only half the hotplates at the park were functioning, and being a typically busy afternoon, in true Golden Key and Australian spirit we shared one with a group of locals who made us feel right at home.
Besides the traditional Aussie snags on offer, a variety of card games and frisbee were played, putting everyone’s competitive and sporty sides on show as usual.
The friendly and open-minded new members of the GK RMIT committee have been able to transition seamlessly into the team with the help of a very warm and tight knit bunch of continuing members from the last committee. And already, very promising signs are starting to show for the year ahead.
