Semester 1, 2015

A Word From The President, Xiyi WangChapter President, Xiyi Wang

Welcome to the start of a new semester, Golden Key members. For many of us, I trust it’s been a challenging semester but a fulfilling one too! So far, we have run a series of successful professional development workshops, social networking events, and also established partnerships with external organisations to provide education-based volunteering opportunities to members. For me personally, it has been an immensely rewarding experience serving as Chapter President so far. I consider it an absolute privilege to help and connect with so many aspiring Golden Key members over the past few months at recent events. As a committee, we’ve also been reflecting on how we’re going, and making changes to what we do and how we do things. Read on for a line-up of our upcoming events this semester helping you to Unlock Your Potential. Get excited and get involved!
Best wishes to you all,
Xiyi Wang, President, Golden Key RMIT University Chapter

Professional Development Workshop Series

Golden Key RMIT held two hugely successful professional development events during Semester 1, 2015.

Stand Out in Job Interviews

The first Golden Key RMIT professional development workshop of 2015, ‘Stand Out in Job Interviews’ was held on 15th April. Guest speaker Anna McLeod of Navitas gave an engaging and relevant presentation on how we can all increase our chances of being the one selected for that dream job, or simply get our foot in the door in our chosen industry. Key topics covered included presentation, self-confidence, knowledge of the role you have applied for, organisational tips, questioning and answering techniques, and how to tackle different types of interviews.

Networking for Career Success

Kane and the committee

The second Golden Key RMIT professional development workshop for 2015, ‘Networking for Career Success’ was held on 5th May. The workshop was presented by business turnaround and networking specialist, Kane Hooper. It was a great workshop in which the attendees were instilled with knowledge how to get ahead in the workplace through effective networking. Kane explained his inspiring journey from office cleaner to business owner, entrepreneur, author and business turnaround specialist. Not only did he share his amazing journey, but also the key to networking for success.

Victoria Alliance Masquerade Ball

Golden Key RMIT members enjoying the ball.

The Victoria Alliance chapters – ACU, Deakin, Federation University, La Trobe, Monash, RMIT, Swinburne, Victoria University – have a strong relationship in which events are frequently held that include all eight chapters. The most anticipated event each year is the Victoria Alliance Ball.

On Thurday, 21st May, 2015 the Golden Key Victoria Alliance Masquerade Ball was held at Leonda by the Yarra. Starting at 7:00pm and finishing at midnight, the event offered five hours of non-stop fun!

On arrival all guests were given canapés and directed to their tables. From there followed a yummy three course meal, drinks, endless dancing, networking, and opportunities to make new friends.
There were even prizes won by the best dressed, loudest table and best dancer! All in all, it was a truly fantastic evening – as is every time the Victoria Alliance chapters meet up!
